Model
For this assignment, I was tasked at creating a humanoid cartoon model in Maya.
(Either existing character or our own design)
This model would have to be at the correct standard to allow for animation, while making sure the low poly model does not exceed 10,000 polys.
For this assignment I was awarded a First.
Software: Maya, Affinity Designer

Model Sheet
The first stage was to produce a model sheet of the cartoon character. I decided to come up with my own design.
I decided to design a cartoon Viking character, using a front and side profile as a template in Maya in the production stage of the model. I needed to display the characters facial features, each item of clothing, and any other accessories the character may have.
Blocking Stage
The next stage was to produce a block model of the Viking. Giving a rough outline of the characters front and side profile, becoming the staring point for each body part and item of clothing.
Adding the details
After blocking the model, this had to be split up into each body part
(Head, Torso, Legs, Hands & Feet).
After separating each body part, the finer details of each item of clothing
and body part could be worked on, including adding edge support to areas that need to keep their shape when smoothing.
Separate Objects
Combined Together
Low vs High Poly
After combining all objects expect the eyes and teeth/jaw. I could produce a high poly version, which would be used to bake the finer details and shadows onto the low poly model.
Low Poly (Left) vs High Poly (Right)
Final Outcome
At the end I was able to produce a cartoon Viking model suitable for animation (Under 10,000 Poly's)
