3D Game Ready Artifact

For this assignment, I was asked to create a 3D model of a car using edge modelling & sculpting techniques. I was asked to produce a 2D vector diagram of the chosen car to assist with the edge modelling.

For this assignment I was awarded a First.

Software: Maya, Mudbox, Adobe Illustrator

References/Planning

I first had to gather reference images to help produce a 2D vector diagram of the car I needed to model.

I would then outline the jewellery of the car (bumpers, grill, chrome trim) and areas that would need to be sculpted in Mudbox

Maya (Low Poly)

After uploading the vector diagram into Maya, I could begin edge modelling, staring with the side profile, followed by mirroring, then defining the front, rear and top profile. I would also sort out the UV's ready for texturing.

I was given a maximum poly count limit of 10,000.

Mudbox (Sculpting)

After completing the low poly model, it was time to produce the high poly (using smoothing), and importing the parts of the model I wished to sculpt with.

In this case I wanted to smooth the bodywork, while adding two raised grooves on the hood of the car.

The Final Outcome

After sculpting I could replace the original high poly body with the new one modified in Mudbox.
