Ryan Samways
3D Painting & Lighting
For this assignment, I was provided a model of
a car, asked to check the quality and UV unwrap
in Maya. Produce each material/texture in
Substance Painter.
Finally placing the textured model into Unreal
Engine, using effective lighting techniques to
present the car in a scene of our choice.
For this assignment I was awarded a High First.
Software: Maya, Substance Painter, Unreal Engine

References
I first had to gather reference images to understand how each texture of the car behaves and should look. The document below outlines each material and how I believe they should appear on the model.
Maya
While checking the provided mesh, I found a few errors or deformaties which would cause issues down the line (n-gons, open faces, overlapping faces, no edge support). These were corrected/modified, and the UV's and material ID's were set up for texturing in Substance Painter.
Substance Painter
I used the fill tool to give a base colour for each material, I can then decide on the roughness and metallic values for each one, and using the paint tools, add more details which give some textures more depth and sense of realism.
Unreal Engine
Here I would demonstrate my use of lighting techniques within a scene that presents the car model.
